A new restaurant in Germantown, NY seeks a service manager.

Opening in late winter 2026, this 50-seat space will be a comfortable, unfussy destination for our neighborhood and those who visit it. The menu will take an exploratory approach, referencing the Riviera (the French and the Italian, but especially the Italian) and the agriculture that surrounds us here in Columbia County.

The service manager will join a few weeks prior to opening day. They will assist with the establishment of systems, procedures, and culture. They will help build a productive and kind team, and support in tackling the deluge of preparations that will make ours a smooth and successful opening.

Working closely with the general manager and chef, the service manager will:

  • Lead Shifts

    • Prepare the service team with intentions and priorities for service, communicating the specifics of what to expect of each service

    • Act as a floor leader, setting the tone for hospitality, pace, and cleanliness

    • Support opening/closing procedures, cash handling, and daily shift reports

    • Be a visible, hands-on presence during service, providing support, problem solving, and engaging warmly with guests

  • Support the Team and Guests

    • Train, coach, and support the team on standards, steps, and product knowledge

    • Give clear direction and feedback

    • Help onboard new team members and communicate reciprocal expectations

    • Act as a true host, with a stake in the wellbeing and satisfaction of guests

  • Own the Details

    • Assist with scheduling, inventory support, and operational checklists

    • Uphold standards of cleanliness and organization

    • Analyze procedures, habits, standards, and the mechanics of service in order to refine these things

    • Consider how small goals, problems, and decisions fit together in the big picture

The ideal candidate is not deterred, but rather is excited, to be a part of the opening process. They will be looking for an opportunity to cultivate positive rituals and cohesion for a team. They will be knowledgeable and curious about food, drink, and hospitality. Various experience levels could be a fit, but good exposure to high-standard and/or ambitious restaurant environments is most appropriate.

Health insurance, paid time off, and a stipend for travel are a few of the benefits that will be available at three months’ tenure. Staff meal ranging from decent to superb will be available from day one.

We are a pair of operators with backgrounds in Philadelphia, NYC and the Hudson Valley who are opening a restaurant because we want to create a great place to work. We don’t think anything really good can happen without accomplishing that first.
